Short answer: On a $50 monthly budget, buy in this order: one paid assistant for yourself, then one automation tool for a task you repeat every week, then somewhere cheap to run it. Write the prices down from each pricing page, add a line for pay-as-you-go model usage, and check the total again when the introductory prices renew.
Disclosure: the Hostinger and AICredits links are affiliate links. Prices below are from the vendors' own pages on 23 Oct 2026. I could not read the ChatGPT or Canva pricing pages (they returned an access error), and Google's AI plan page showed no amounts, so I leave those out rather than quote them from memory. Check them yourself before you budget.
Small business owners rarely overspend on one big tool. They overspend on six small ones they stopped using. The fix is to decide what job each tool does and set a ceiling before you subscribe.
What should you buy first?
- One assistant. Writing, replies, summaries and analysis come up daily, so this pays back soonest. Pick one: Claude, ChatGPT or Gemini. Try the free tier of each for a week on your real tasks, then pay for the one you kept opening. The prompts for small business owners give you a week's worth of real work to test with.
- One automation tool, but only once you can name a weekly task (lead replies, invoice reminders, order updates). Examples are in AI agents for Indian small businesses.
- Somewhere to run what you build, if you build anything. A VPS is one option, a managed automation plan is another.
Everything else (design tools, transcription, an accountant's software) is a second-round purchase.
What did the prices look like on 23 October 2026?
Only what I could read:
| Item | Price | Source note |
|---|---|---|
| Claude Pro | $20/month billed monthly, $17/month with annual billing ($200 up front) | Page shows "$" without naming the currency |
| Claude Max | From $100/month | Same page |
| n8n Cloud Starter | €20/month billed annually, 2.5K executions | Page lists annual-billing prices only |
| n8n Cloud Pro | €50/month billed annually, 10K executions | Same page |
| Hostinger KVM 2 | $8.79/month, renewing at $14.99 (US page); ₹779/month, renewing at ₹1,199 (India page) | Paid upfront for a term |
| Hostinger KVM 1 | $6.49/month, renewing at $11.99 | 1 vCPU, 4 GB RAM |
ChatGPT, Gemini and Canva plans: not verified here. Open their pricing pages and add the numbers to the planner below. The same goes for any tool I haven't listed.
How do you plan the budget?
A short script keeps you honest, especially about renewals. Replace the placeholder API line with your own estimate. I ran it on 23 Oct 2026:
BUDGET_USD = 50.0
# (tool, monthly cost in USD, where the number came from)
STACK = [
("Claude Pro (annual billing)", 17.00, "claude.com/pricing, 2026-10-23"),
("Hostinger KVM 2 (n8n self-hosted)", 8.79, "hostinger.com/vps-hosting, 2026-10-23"),
("Model API credits (your guess)", 10.00, "placeholder: replace with your own usage"),
]
total = sum(cost for _, cost, _ in STACK)
for tool, cost, src in STACK:
print(f"{tool:36} ${cost:6.2f} {src}")
print(f"{'total':36} ${total:6.2f} budget ${BUDGET_USD:.2f} left ${BUDGET_USD - total:.2f}")
# Renewal check: Hostinger's sale price is not what you pay later.
later = total - 8.79 + 14.99
print(f"after Hostinger renewal: ${later:.2f} left ${BUDGET_USD - later:.2f}")
Claude Pro (annual billing) $ 17.00 claude.com/pricing, 2026-10-23
Hostinger KVM 2 (n8n self-hosted) $ 8.79 hostinger.com/vps-hosting, 2026-10-23
Model API credits (your guess) $ 10.00 placeholder: replace with your own usage
total $ 35.79 budget $50.00 left $14.21
after Hostinger renewal: $41.99 left $8.01
The $10 for API usage is invented. The lesson isn't the total, it's the last line: the same stack costs $6.20 more a month once the introductory price ends. Annual billing on Claude also needs $200 in cash at once, which a monthly view hides.
Should you self-host n8n or use n8n Cloud?
n8n Cloud Starter at €20 a month (billed annually) includes 2.5K workflow executions, and pricing is by executions regardless of complexity. Self-hosting needs a server, and on Hostinger's KVM 2 that is $8.79 now, $14.99 on renewal, plus your time for updates, backups and security. If you have never run a server, Cloud is the calmer choice. If you're comfortable with Docker, the self-hosted n8n guide and the cloud vs self-hosted calculator show the break-even. For other options see n8n vs Make vs Zapier.
If you do self-host, get a KVM 2 and size it with the plan guide. Check the cart for taxes and the term.
How do you pay for model usage without a surprise?
Subscriptions are fixed. API usage is not. Use a key with a budget cap, for example on AICredits, where you can top up in rupees by UPI from ₹50 and set a limit per key. If you already hold a zero-forex card, paying a provider directly is cheaper per token, as compared in the credit card guide.
What would I cut?
- Any subscription you opened fewer than four times last month.
- Two assistants that do the same job.
- Annual plans for tools you haven't used for a full month yet.
Review the list on the first of each month and keep the script's STACK list up to date.
